Offered is an attractive small Southwest-style polychrome pottery olla featuring a rounded globular body, short cylindrical neck, and hand-worked geometric decoration in black, reddish-brown, and natural buff/tan tones.
The decoration consists of alternating bold black and reddish-brown geometric panels separated by fine parallel linear borders. The black sections incorporate repeating feather-, leaf-, or flame-like buff elements, while the reddish-brown panels feature stepped linear details. The combination creates a striking repeating design extending around the body of the vessel. A narrow undecorated buff band encircles the lower body.
The piece measures approximately 5 inches in diameter by 4 inches high.
The underside is undecorated and shows a small circular residue/spot along with a dark area of discoloration or firing coloration. We have found no legible artist signature or maker\'s mark.
CONDITION
Pre-owned vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear.
There are scattered scratches, abrasions, small marks, discoloration, and wear to portions of the painted decoration. Minor irregularities in the pottery and decoration are present and appear consistent with its handmade character. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photographs are considered an important part of the description and show the actual piece being offered.
No major structural crack, large rim chip, or obvious restoration has been observed in our visual examination. However, this is a vintage handmade pottery item and we cannot guarantee that there are no minute imperfections, firing irregularities, hairlines, old repairs, or other condition issues not readily visible in the photographs.
