Vintage Mid-Century De Sela Mexican Folk Art Statues - Set of 2 from Marshall Field & Co.

Stunning ! Pair of mid-century modern (1960s-1970s) Mexican folk art statues created by the renowned studio of De Sela (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico).

This set includes Joseph and Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus

Both pieces are hand-signed \"De Sela\" in black script on the lower sides.

One features the original oval gold-and-black foil \"De Sela Made in Mexico\" manufacturer label. Both pieces still carry their original vintage \"Marshall Field & Company\" department store retail price tags stickers.

Exquisitely crafted!! Traditional cartonería (paper mâché) technique, layered with rich orange and blue velvet fabrics, gold-painted metallic details, silver trim, and intricate, jewel-embellished wire-work halos.

They are in great vintage condition given their age and delicate medium. The colors remain vibrant, and the fabric elements are well-preserved. Minor cosmetic age wear to the painted paper mâché surfaces and trim , which is standard for authentic mid-century cartonería. I think the jewels are all present as seen in the photos - however, I do not know for sure, as through all my research , I haven\'t been able to find ones identical.
